OCL Volunteer, Dr Abdulla A Fakhro, MD FRCSI FACS, a plastic surgeon with prior experience in medical missions and a keen interest in reconstructive surgery, joined an Operation Childlife mission to Jordan in partnership with Atlantic Humanitarian Relief (AHR) in April 2023.   The team spent a week at the Al Istiklaal Hospital providing medical interventions and also delivered a three-full day workshop, emphasizing the implications of the war on Syrian patients, their healthcare challenges, and how reconstructive surgery can vastly improve their quality of life. This workshop was attended by over 30 medical professionals, including consultant surgeons, trainees from general surgery, neurosurgery, vascular surgery, and a myriad of nursing and physical therapists. These workshops were followed by one-on-one hands-on surgical training in the operating room.

Dr Fakhro has written “The art and science of plastic and reconstructive surgery: A manual of surgery” and has kindly agreed to make this resource available to medical professionals with limited resources.  Please contact Danelle at Operation Childlife  opchildlife@outlook.com to request a copy or with any enquiries.
